
Capturing the eclectic spirit of a genre-bending jam band
Ajeva is a Florida-based band whose sound draws inspiration from a wide variety of times, places, and emotions. The one consistent in their performances, is the emphasis on improvisation or "jamming". When they approached me with the task of defining their new visual identity, I knew it had to capture their impeccable ability to navigate that calculated risk—loose, free, and flowing, yet fully conscious and intentional. The logo process itself was heavily inspired by the hand-made punk and rave flyers of the 80s/90s, that utilized cutouts, handwritten fonts, photocopiers, and other raw tools and methods. Ajeva is a psychedelic band at its core, so a hand-drawn, slightly tripped out primary logotype felt essential. From this logo, a library of over 60 warped versions were created using a scanner, manipulating each unique version by hand. The result is a brand that encapsulates Ajeva's ever-evolving, experimental nature. An identity that grows with them as they continue to branch into new spaces and sounds.
